Avinet Newsletter September 2010

Welcome to our regular Avinet newsletter where you can hear about the latest developments to the Avinet suite of products and be kept up to date on the happenings of our customers and team.

It’s been an exciting and eventful few months since our last newsletter with July marking a major milestone for Avinet – our 5th Year Anniversary.

We are pleased to report significant improvements in uptake of our online safety management and resource planning applications; Air Maestro®, Rail Maestro® and Road Maestro®. In fact, our planned expansion outside Australia has generated considerable new business in Europe, South Africa, Hong Kong and North America. This expansion has seen Avinet form flourishing international alliances and has also raised our globetrotting profile as we continue to exhibit at major aviation tradeshows around the world.

From the Development Team

Since our last newsletter, we have released (Beta stage) version 2.5 which contains work practices and tasking enhancements within various operational modules, as requested by our customers.

The work practices enhancement now supports United Kingdom CAP 371 as well as Papua New Guinean and South African requirements. The tasking changes will be a welcome improvement as Air Maestro® users can now track staff against a particular task, check totals are correctly reported in their logbook and test recency status.

More information will be made available on our Release Page once Beta testing has been completed.

Upcoming Enhancements

Release 2.6 Verification of Roster
Based on customer feedback, Air Avalon 09Maestro® will be enhanced to validate the roster process with reference to personnel and recency item status. Other features include customisable time formats, recency check form sign offs and a change in alert templates with regard to acknowledgement from pilots and personnel for completed checks.

Release 2.7 Custom Safety Reports
Air Maestro®’s Safety Module will be overhauled to provide custom report types with custom fields in each report type. The changes will flow into the investigation process which will be less restrictive and also promote greater links between the Audit and Hazard modules.

Simon Anderson - Software Development Work Placement

simonUniversity student Simon Anderson has joined the Avinet team and is already displaying a real flair for software development by working on a mock module for Air Maestro®.

Under the guiding eye of Team Leader Damien Coyle, Simon created a flight planning solution as an external module that will integrate with Air Maestro®. The solution, all part of a larger project in Simon’s Post Graduate Innovation in Enterprise Degree, is intended to alleviate the monotonous tasks undertaken by pilots when planning their flights, while giving a detailed report to take with them on their journey.

The work placement program is run by the Flinders University and is proudly sponsored by Comunet/Avinet. The program aims to give talented students like Simon the opportunity to gain valuable industry insight.
